A special place surrounded by nature
In golden October, when the clear mountain air is particularly pure and nature shines in vibrant colors, we invite you to a very special retreat in the Indian Himalayas. Our exclusive retreat is nestled in the peaceful seclusion of the mountains above Shimla – in a luxurious nature camp with cozy cottages and rooms, all with attached bathrooms and a breathtaking view of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Small mountain villages, ancient temples and dense forests surround this magical place of power that offers peace, space and genuine connection.
Accompaniment by experienced retreat leaders
The retreat is lovingly accompanied by Sarah Appelt, founder of Chalo Reisen, passionate yoga teacher and long-time India expert, and Meike Hauser, yoga teacher, breathwork coach, hiking guide and tour guide. Both bring not only their in-depth knowledge, but also a lot of heart and personal experience of India – and together they create a safe space for deep experiences, exchange and growth.
A week full of yoga, nature and culture
You can expect a balanced mix of daily yoga and meditation sessions, inspiring excursions to temples and villages, as well as optional outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking and even climbing. Everything can, nothing must – the retreat is designed to be open and gives you plenty of space to listen to your own needs. Whether you want to recharge your batteries, connect with yourself and nature or get to know the Indian Himalayas in a gentle way – you’ll find the perfect setting here.
Conscious nutrition & sustainable travel
Our vegetarian, seasonal and locally inspired cuisine is a feast for the senses and an important part of the retreat. We cook fresh with regional ingredients – full of flavor, nourishing and healthy. Even the journey on the famous narrow-gauge railroad through the green mountain slopes of Shimla is an experience in itself and sets you up perfectly for the days ahead.

Your companions: With heart, experience and a genuine connection to India
The retreat will be led by two inspiring women who are connected to India and the Himalayas in very different ways – and together they will create a safe, mindful space for your personal journey.

Sarah Appelt, founder of Chalo Reisen, has lived in India since 2009 and has been based in Shimla in the Indian Himalayas for seven years. As a certified yoga teacher, trained mountain guide and enthusiastic outdoor sportswoman, she combines her passion for movement, nature and spirituality with her deep local knowledge of the region in an authentic way. She learned yoga herself in India – her practice is down-to-earth, powerful and grounded.

Meike Hauser has been traveling India intensively for two years and brings her versatile expertise as a yoga teacher, coach, breathwork teacher, mountain biker and hiking guide to the retreat. With her keen sense for people and spaces, she creates access to inner depth, self-reflection and genuine connection – always with an open heart and a firm footing in nature.

Together, Sarah and Meike will guide you through a special week in the Himalayas – with clarity, warmth and lots of experience.
The accommodation
Our retreat takes place at Shivpur Greens an idyllic nature resort in Mashobra, just a few kilometers from Shimla. Nestled in dense Deodar forests and surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks, this place offers the perfect backdrop for a week of peace, movement and inner contemplation.
The accommodation consists of comfortable cottages with attached bathrooms and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain landscape. The fresh mountain air, the chirping of the birds and the proximity to untouched nature create an atmosphere of relaxation and well-being.
Shivpur Greens is not only a place to linger, but also a starting point for a variety of activities. Whether it’s yoga sessions with a view of the mountains, meditation in the midst of nature or hikes through the surrounding forests – everyone will find the right way to harmonize body and mind here.
The regional cuisine spoils you with vegetarian, seasonal and local specialties that are freshly prepared and delight the palate. In the evening, a cozy campfire invites you to end the day in a convivial atmosphere.
Shivpur Greens is the ideal place to get away from it all, recharge your batteries and enjoy the beauty of the Indian Himalayas to the full.
Our program
Yoga & Meditation
Our daily yoga and meditation sessions form the heart of the retreat. In the midst of the powerful mountain landscape, we practise activating yoga in the morning and gentle yoga in the evening, always adapted to the needs of the group. The yoga classes combine classic Hatha elements with breathwork and meditation – a holistic practice that brings calm, grounding and creates space for inner clarity. The retreat is also ideal for beginners.
Hiking & experiencing nature
Dense forests, hidden mountain paths, clear streams and tranquil temples await you around our retreat location – ideal conditions for short and long hikes. Whether a leisurely stroll to a nearby village or a scenic day tour: the mountains not only offer exercise, but also tranquillity, space and the experience of true closeness to nature.
Mountain biking & climbing (optional)
For those who want to experience the Himalayas actively, we offer optional mountain bike excursions and climbing units on request. The trails lead along quiet mountain roads, through apple orchards and small settlements – sporty, but mindful. All activities are professionally guided and are also suitable for beginners.
Cultural excursions
The region around Shimla is rich in culture and history. We visit traditional villages, learn about local craftsmanship and visit Buddhist and Hindu temples. These excursions not only open up new perspectives, but also enable authentic encounters with the local people and traditions.
Shimla and the Himachal Pradesh region
Shimla, once the summer residence of the British colonial government, lies at an altitude of around 2,200 meters in the middle of the western foothills of the Himalayas. Today, the capital of Himachal Pradesh is a lively mountain town that combines modernity and tradition. The surrounding area is characterized by lush green forests, apple orchards and charming mountain villages – an ideal destination for nature lovers, those seeking peace and quiet and those interested in culture alike.
Climate & weather in October
October is considered one of the best times to travel to the Indian Himalayas. After the rainy season, the air is clear, the view of the mountains is impressive and the climate is pleasantly mild. During the day, you can expect temperatures between 18 and 24 °C – ideal for outdoor activities. It can get chilly in the early mornings and evenings, especially at high altitudes, so bring warm clothing with you. The colors of autumn and the golden light make this time a real gift for body and soul.
