Today I learned something new about India. Apparently 4 small areas at the west cost of India very cloth to the state Gujarat a forming one Union Territory. From the 15th century till 19 December 1961 all 4 of them belonged together with Goa to Portuguese India.

It was very difficult to figure out a typical dish of that Union Territory, as all 4 parts are so small and highly dominated influenced by the Gujaratis and Maharashtrian kitchen – their neighbour states. But apparently also the Parsi kitchen has some influence and that is why I decided to prepare a vegetarian version of Dal Dhansak.
What stroked me the most, while tasting the Lentil preparation, was the fact, that even though I used exactly the same lentils and vegetables for the Odhisa Dish Dalma, Dal Dhansak tasted completely different! Just because of the different type of preparation and spices!
My version became a little bit too spicy though ?.
