With 3,287,000 km² India is a huge subcontinent that has a great variety of culture and nature to offer.

If you are planning a trip to India, you are often spoiled for choice as to which travel destination to choose, because the travel routes in India are long and the individual regions are best to visit at different times of the year.

With this Multi Active India trip we make the almost impossible possible: In just three weeks, the most beautiful and interesting places can be experienced and visited. The group goes from the Himalayan region through northern India to southern India.

Sure, with so many travel destinations, this multi-activity trip is not a relaxing holiday, but there is all the more to marvel at and experience.

This trip is feasible from September to December and in reverse order from February to April.

Program

Day 1 Arrival in Delhi

You will be picked up from the airport at night and taken to the hotel. Here you have some time to relax. We meet for breakfast. Afterwards we explore Old and New Delhi together on foot, by metro and the car rickshaw. This includes a visit to the non-profit organization Chetna, which supports street children on their way to education. We end the evening with a dinner together.

Day 2 train ride to Haridwar, then on to Rishikesh

Early in the morning we take the train to Haridwar. After about 4 hours we reach the Holy City of Haridwar on the Ganges. From here a taxi takes us to the nearby Rishikesh.

We move into our ashram directly on the Ganges and then explore the pilgrimage city. In the afternoon we take part in a yoga class and then attend the so-called “Arti” a light ceremony at the Ganges.

Day 3 Ashram everyday life

Early in the morning and in the evening we take part in the ashram program with meditation, yoga class, fire and light ritual.

The rest of the day is free. If you like, you can take part in a small hike, treat yourself to a massage, simply let the atmosphere of Rishikesh take hold and also visit a yoga class in the afternoon. We also offer a half-day rafting tour on the Ganges.

Day 4 drive to Daramshala/Mcleod Ganj (10 hours), In the evening arrival in the Tibetan-influenced Himalayan place and delicious dinner

Today’s route is quite long with 10 hours, but the route is interesting and there is a lot to see on the way. In the evening we finally reach the mountain village of McLeod Ganj at an altitude of 1800 m.

Here the Dalai Lama has his Tibetan government in exile and lives with a community of Tibetan refugees. We end the evening with a delicious Tibetan dinner.

Day 5 Exploring McLeod Ganj

After breakfast we take a short walk to the Tushita Center where we are invited to participate in a guided meditation. Afterwards we continue walking through the small mountain resorts, visiting the Dalai Lama temple and enjoying the Tibetan-influenced mountain resort.

Day 6 Start of a two-day hike to Triund and the tree line

A hike of 4 to 5 hours first brings us to Triund, a green pasture at 2900 m with a wonderful view of the Kangratal and the surrounding high mountains. After lunch we continue to the tree line

Our own trekking cook conjures up delicious dishes for us, which we eat around the campfire

Day 7 Day 2 of the hike back to Mcleod Ganj

In the middle of nature we welcome the day. After a hearty breakfast, we now take another hiking route back to Mcleod Ganj.

Day 8 Drive to Amritsar in the early morning

Early in the morning we go on a five-hour bus ride to Amritsar. We visit the Golden Temple and the most important sights during a city walk. In the evening we take the night train to Agra.

Day 9 Arrival in Agra, visit to the Taj Mahal, bike tour through rural Agra with Taj Mahal viewpoint for sunset

After a break and an invigorating breakfast we visit the Taj Mahal. On a small bike tour through the rural surroundings of Agras we get to know a completely new traditional village life. The small tour ends at a wonderful viewpoint on the Tja Mahal at sunset. In the evening we enjoy dinner with a view of the illuminated Taj Mahal.

Day 10 Train ride to Ranthambore and jeep safari through the national park

Early in the morning we take another train ride to Ranthambore. Our resort is quiet and offers good opportunities for relaxation. In the afternoon we take part in a jeep safari through the Ranthambore National Park. With a little luck we will spot tigers, bears and crocodiles.

Day 11 Jeep safari and drive to Jaipur

After a morning jeep safari and the renewed chance to see exotic animals in their natural habitat, we set off on the four-hour drive to Jaipur. In the afternoon we explore the magnificent Amber Fort before checking into our hotel.

Day 12 Jaipur sightseeing

During a morning bike sightseeing tour through Jaipur we discover the life of the locals. Then we visit Jaipur’s main attractions. In the evening there is the free choice to participate in a Bollywood dance workshop or, alternatively, a street food tour.

Day 13 Drive to Osian via Pushkar

The trip to Pushkar takes two hours. There are more than 400 temples in the holy city. We visit the most important one: the Brahma Temple and can participate in a ceremony at the holy Pushkar Lake. After lunch and some free time to shop, we continue to Osian where we ride camels through rural Rajasthan into the sunset and our luxury camp.

A delicious buffet, campfire and a traditional dance performance are waiting for us.

Day 14 Jodhpur and cooking class

After arriving in Jodhpur, an hour away, we visit the Mehrangahr Fort and take a city walk through the Blue City including a samosa and lassi stop (Indian snack break) and of course some shopping.

In the afternoon we set off for one of our highlights of the trip: an Indian cooking lesson.

Day 15 Flight to Cochin, Kerala

Today we fly to Cochin via Mumbai and drive directly to our Marari beach resort

Day 16 beach resort

A relaxing day to relax on the beach with yoga, Ayurveda and the opportunity to participate in a traditional interactive martial arts demonstration. Alternatively, Fort Kochi can be visited on a day tour today.

Day 17 Kayak tour through the backwaters

Today we explore the canal system of the backwaters by kayak. We get the life of the locals very authentically. In the afternoon we are back at the resort.

Day 18 Drive to Thekkeday

Through tea and spice plantations, it goes through the hilly Western Ghats to Thekkadey. Here we visit a spice garden and take part in a Kerala cooking class in the evening

Day 19 Boat trip and short hike through the Perijar National Park

Today we explore the Perijar nature reserve and, with a bit of luck, spot wild elephants in the morning.

Then we drive to Munnar, four hours away, where we are surrounded by lush green tea fields.

Day 20 Hike through the tea plantations

Our final activity on this trip: we take a day hike through the tea. The afternoon visit to the tea museum will consolidate our new knowledge about tea.

Day 21 Transfer to the airport (4 hours) or Fort Kochi

Today we head towards Fort Kochi. Depending on the time of your departure, you can either stay at the airport or in Fort Kochi. The trip ends with a final dinner together. End of the journey

Requirements

This trip does not place any special physical demands, but for the hike, the yoga lessons and the bike sightseeing tours there should be some desire for exercise.
Furthermore, a lot of open-mindedness, flexibility and curiosity are required.

We will cover quite a long distance and some sections will be a little longer with the longest transfer from Rishikesh to Dharamshala (10 h) and an overnight train ride from Amritsar to Agra. There is also a domestic flight via Mumbai from Jodhpur to Cochin. Temperatures will vary with cooler temperatures in the Himalayan region and tropical warm weather in Kerala in southern India.
