McleodGanj, the little Lhasa, is the center of the Buddhist tradition in India. It is the residing place of the Dalai Lama, the head of the Buddhist religion. It thus offers a great mix of the Tibetan culture brought along by the refugees after their exile from Tibet, and the local ethnic Himalayan culture. The two cultures co-exist beautifully, offering their particularities for all visitors to experience. Apart from the immense cultural and religious beauty of the place, its location in the Himalayas, the breathtaking landscapes and nearby hikes make it a must visit for any traveller. It is also a popular destination for many yoga practitioners and teachers, and has a vibrant yoga culture with many renowned yoga schools and teachers. One frequently runs into fellow yoga practitioners and teachers on the streets and in the beautiful cafes and restaurants. The vibrant culture brings along amazing food from all parts of the world, not least the offerings from the Tibetan and local cuisine. One can walk through colourful markets, suddenly finding green peaceful trails, in quaint villages, along the river and high up into the hills. Surrounded by Buddhist culture, experiencing the life of the ever so beautiful and friendly locals, makes Mcleodganj a must visit for all interested. The world renowned Tushita Meditation Center is a must see in addition to the Dalai Temple.
